Avionics Chat
30. Jan 2009 at 16:30

Hello Everybody.

The purpose of this thread is to be there to help with simple questions that may help someone out with those nagging problems.   I also will try to add some tips from time to time as my schedule will allow.   I will endeavour to answer all questions as best I can.

My name is Paul Strike.   A little bit about me.

After 16 years in the RAAF as an Avionics Trade Supervisor, life lead me off to the Middle Eastern country of Oman, where I managed a Maintenance Planing and Technical Records project for 2 years.   Shifing from the sand to the snow my career had me obtain my Canadian AME Licence, thanks to the constant "Encouragement" from my wife, where I could be found in a snow bank changing antennas at minus 40 degrees C or writing Quality Assurance Manuals in the Northwest Territories in the far north of Canada.

After 6 years we Ended up in the Praries of Canada in Calgary, Alberta working on everything from DASH 8's and 737's down to ultralights.   Life again dictated a move back to home soil in SE Queensland to show my Canadian wife what life is like on the other side of the globe.   Although we now live in Woodford, my work commute has me flying in and out of a highland villiage in Papua New Guinea.

As displayed in the Aircraft Maintenance Forum, I am opening an Avionics Business in Caboolture soon and hopefully with the patronage of the aviation community in SE Queensland, the jungles of PNG will be a memory.

This thread is NOT meant to help you fix a defect by yourself and should you have questions of a specific defect nature, then you should have your problem reviewed by a suitably qualified Maintenance Engineer.   A good start would be to drop by Hangar 105 after we open for a complimentary cup of Fresh Brewed Papua New Guinea Flavoured Coffee and "Have a chat".

Hope to see you around sometime.

Paul Strike

hello Paul,

I think I recall you from Amberley. Did you fly an ultralight from Amberley to Northern Queensland for a charity at one stage?

Hello,
First of all I would like to thank you for creating this forum and help people. I am currently studying and I was assigned to prepare a presentation about Avionic Discretes, but I am not familiar with the topic and all what I can find about discretes is referred to mathematics.
I would appreciate it if someone could help me by providing any type of information about this topic. I also need to know the meaning of Open/Ground?
Thanks
Dan
