For days now I have been working on placement of all the panel and sub-panel parts. I thought that this would be very easy , however I see that you must consider cables in/out, do I mount it vertical or horizontal, how can I do maintenance to it later on. Each time I placed something, I asked myself these things. Im putting nut plates in so I can remove anything later on.
I know it doesnt look like much, but this is where things will go. The left side is the electronic ignition box, note the BNC connector, this allows me to run the cable straight out to the firewall.
...
In the middle is the Engine monitor sensor box. ( EMS ) This has two big cable runs at the firewall side for all the engine sensors, and one small db9 at the top for serial comms.
...

The above photo shows the sub panel, The big hole is for the radio, and the two smaller holes under it are for the transponder.
At the end of the day I have got to this:
...
I just had to turn it on. NOTE: skyview doesnt ship with 3D terrain, you must download it from dynon ( 2 gig file ) and upload it the screen. it takes about 20 mins to install 3D. If you look close, I have it pointing West, you can see the mountains.

Exhaust time. Start with these.

...
The pipe already have labels on them so it goes together very quickly.

...

Next was to put these parts ( heater muff ) together.

...

Put these on first.

...

Then slide the cover on. watch out for the very sharp edges !

Skyview ADAHRS mounting.
After weeks of looking for a better place, this is where I decided that it would be best for me ( Vans RV-7A). As I already had the aft deck top skins riveted on, and I wanted as much room as I can back in the aft area when crawling around. I must note that the credit for this location goes to another fellow member of VAF, im just showing some more picture of my install.
This is half way between the baggage rib bulkhead ( F706) and the next rearward rib( F707) looking aft.
...
Here is a better picture showing the two rib locations.

...

Here is the co-pilot side view, also looking Aft.

...
Now , here it is primed and ready to rivet in.
...
Some measurements for you. Note the 9 pin connector faces rearward once installed. Also  you have to put a slight down ward angle on the verticals, as the aft deck runs downward to the tail.
The base is 6 12/32 inch long.  On the left side vertical near the 9pin, its height is 2 10/32 ( rear ) and the front is 2 30/32 ( forward side ) I made the width the same size as the ADAHRS. It was made out of 032.

hi Jamie,

Great work so far.  You are going to have a ball.

Just one tip.   When you locate your blind components (particularly the avionics, try to imagine accessing them when the aircraft is complete and you are trying to put the plug in from the aft and you are on your head upside down and the damn thing just wont go in.

Thats all.

Keep up the good work.

Hi Paul,

yes I have spent to much time thinking of where this or that will go, will it be ok to service it later on etc. As I said it has taken me weeks to commit to just this one item.

Well, thats one less item I can move on from... Roll Eyes

An update on my panel.

After I had cut out all the holes, I had this.
...
I wanted a hammered finish. In the USA they use Rust-oleum ( hammered ) however Im not able to find it in Australia. What I did find was this type of paint.
Rust Gaurd- hammered finish from White Knight. Here it is all painted.
...
Here is a close up, I hope this will not show finger prints link Matte Black does.
...
Time to start putting it all together I guess.

Panel work.
Here I am putting things in place, I have ran out of some of the circuit breakers values that I need, I should have new ones here soon.
...

This shows how much room I have behind the efis screen ( not much ).

...

I also put the tansponder and Comm antennas in. I was only able to get a picture of the comm antenna before my camera battery went flat.
I used a RAMI comm antenna from Vans. I placed it just FWD of the main spar. I used the double plate that came with it, I just trimmed the aft end of it off, to mate up with the Spar. I put two of the bolts into the spar, the other two just go in the doubble. Being that this is an "A" model the gear legs inside the fuse cover this area , so no damage should happen to the BNC connectors.

...

and from the outside.

...

The transponder antenna was place in the same area , but on the co-pilots side. Sorry no picture.
The rest of the week will be putting lots of wires in...fun, fun, fun  Wink

In the blank spot above the radio and transponder , im going to put some sort of stand alone Gps, maybe pocket FMS. Pocket FMS uses a car gps and you mod it to run aircraft data/maps etc. Im also looking at a system that will run media ( movies / music ) I have a few in mind and will keep you posted as to what I do....hehe  Cool

Its been some time since I have posted any updates, well here we go.
The first 3 photos show how the wires run all over the place, it looks like I have no order, however
I have spent a long time working out where every little thing has to go.
...

...

...

This photo is of the ground block I made myself, to get one from the USA is about $60 USD, this one cost me around $20 AUD.

...

A close up ( pilot side )

...

This is how im doing the 60amp ANL fuse instead of running a big wire all the way to the panel for a CB.

...

The next 2 photos show where I ran the engine sensor wires L and R , also the electronic ignition wires.

...

...

This last photo is how I ran the FAT WIRE to the main bus.

...

So that is what I have been up to the last 6 weeks. I have also ran the starter and ALT big wires.
I know I need a lot more adel clamps to hold the wires apart and not rub on anything. I also need some rubber/silicon boots to go on the ends of some wire. I need to get behind the panel all done ASAP, so I can get back to fitting the canopy.

Well its been another 6 weeks, so here is what I have been up to.
I needed to get the wings completed as best I can to be ready to fit to the fuse.
I started to fit these for the flap and ailerons.
...

...
I had not put the bottom wing skins on yet because, I needed to fit the AoA and autopilot servo. It would have been a real pain in the a$$ to do this if the skin had been fitted first.
Roll servo ( Dynon )
...
AoA ( Dynon )
...
This is where the AoA needs to go.
...

...
Use the template , you will need to make the hole just a little bigger than the template.
...
I used a number #40 drill , then went at it with my dremel tool.
...
Now I could start to rivet the inboard skins. Doing this by yourself is possible, however if you can get someone to help you, this is the area you could use a hand with
...
After this was done, it was now time to mount the flap and ailerons to the wing for the first time.
...
The First wing fitting the aileron took me a good 2.5 hrs, the 2nd one only about 30 mins.
Things I found that make it go faster. 1) fit the the push rod to the aileron first, then slide the rod inside the wing to the bell crank. 2) fit the rod to the bell crank and USE the jig vans sends you. This helps hold thing in place. 3) put the other bolts in without the washers/spacers or nut in to hold position.
